My Brewing Buddy respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the website and Android app collect, how that information is used, and the choices you have when you use My Brewing Buddy, including the recipe builder and Brew Buddy assistant.
This policy covers the My Brewing Buddy Android app and the website at mybrewingbuddy.com. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at info@mybrewingbuddy.com.
Information We Collect
Account information. If you create an account or log in, WordPress stores the information needed to manage your account, such as your username, email address, password hash, account role, and login-related details.
Recipe information. When you use the recipe builder, My Brewing Buddy stores the recipes you create or save, including recipe names, descriptions, ingredients, measurements, notes, recipe type, and calculation-related fields. Saved recipes are associated with your user account so you can view and manage them later.
Brew Buddy assistant questions. When question logging is enabled, we store the question, page URL, matched site documents, answer mode, number of matched documents, date/time and login status. New signed-in questions are linked to your account ID so they can be included in your data export and removed when you delete your account. Question text can contain personal or recipe information you choose to enter. Historical and signed-out questions may not be linked to an account.
Answer reports. If you report an answer in the Android app, we store your account ID, selected answer, preceding question, reason, optional notes, receipt identifier, submission and expiry times, and review status. Long questions or answers may be shortened. Reports are available to site administrators for review; submitting one does not trigger another AI request.
Generated recipe drafts. If Brew Buddy generates a recipe for you, the temporary generated recipe draft may be stored briefly so you can choose whether to save it. If you save it, the recipe is added to your recipe collection.
Contact and support information. If you contact us or submit a form, we collect the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, message, and any details needed to respond.
Technical information. Like most websites, our hosting provider, WordPress, security tools, and related services may process technical information such as browser type, device information, pages visited, referring URLs, cookies, log data, and IP address. This information helps operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the website.
How We Use Information
We use information to operate My Brewing Buddy, provide user accounts, save and display recipes, run recipe calculations, respond to support requests, improve help content, protect the website from spam or abuse, troubleshoot problems, and maintain site security.
Assistant answer reports are reviewed to investigate concerns and improve the assistant. Assistant question logs may be reviewed to understand what users are trying to find, identify missing help topics, improve documentation, and make Brew Buddy more useful.
Brew Buddy Assistant and AI Processing
Brew Buddy uses an AI service provider to check whether questions fit its brewing and beverage topic and content rules, including before local definitions or saved-recipe lookups. These checks send your question and recent conversation context to the provider.
Brew Buddy may use an AI service provider to answer questions, explain brewing topics, help find pages on the site, or generate recipe suggestions. When AI is used, the assistant may send your question, recent assistant conversation context, the current page title or URL, and relevant public My Brewing Buddy page context to the AI provider.
Saved-recipe lookup searches your account’s recipes on our server. Recent conversation context sent to the AI provider can include recipe or personal information present in earlier questions or answers, including recipe information discussed in the conversation. The provider processes information under its own terms and privacy practices.
Please do not enter sensitive personal information into Brew Buddy. AI-generated brewing guidance should be reviewed before use, especially for safety, legality, allergies, equipment limits, and distillation-related topics.
Community Recipes
When you submit a recipe to Community Recipes, we store a copy of the recipe, its notes, your chosen shared author name, and its moderation history. Submissions are reviewed by an administrator before becoming visible to signed-in members. Approved recipes can be copied into other members’ private libraries. Do not include personal information in the recipe or author name that you do not want members to see. Reports and their details are visible to administrators. You can withdraw your shared listing; deleting your account removes your community submissions and associated records. Recipe copies already saved by other members remain in their libraries. Hidden submissions and their associated reports and copy references are deleted after a 30-day review period through scheduled cleanup. Other submission and report history is retained until account deletion or erasure. Recipe copies already saved by other members remain in their libraries.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
My Brewing Buddy uses cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for WordPress login sessions, account features, security, preferences, and site functionality. Some plugins or service providers may also use cookies or similar technologies to help operate and protect the site.
How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share or process information with service providers that help run the website, such as web hosting, WordPress plugins, security services, email or form tools, and AI service providers used by Brew Buddy. These providers process information so they can provide services to My Brewing Buddy.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the security or integrity of the website, to prevent abuse, or to protect the rights and safety of My Brewing Buddy and its users.
Data Retention
Account information and saved recipes are retained while your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Contact messages may be retained as needed for support and recordkeeping. New Brew Buddy question logs are configured to expire after 30 days. Older question logs retain their previously assigned expiry, and historical logs without an expiry may remain until separately removed. Answer reports expire after 30 days, whether open or reviewed. Scheduled cleanup removes expired records.
Deleting your account removes its linked recipes, preferences, comments, assistant questions and reports, pending recipe previews and access sessions from the active service. Unlinked historical or guest questions, server logs and backup copies have separate retention schedules. Deleting the app alone does not delete your website account or server data.
Personal Ingredients
Personal ingredients are stored in your account and are not added to the standard ingredient catalog. We retain saved ingredient versions so changes or archiving do not alter existing recipes. They are included in your data export and removed when your account is deleted or its data is erased. If you submit a recipe containing personal ingredients to Community Recipes, their names and brewing specifications are included in the submission for review. After approval, signed-in members can view those specifications and receive independent ingredient copies when saving the recipe. Copies already saved by other members remain in their accounts if you later change an ingredient, withdraw the shared recipe, or delete your account.
Your Choices
You can choose not to create an account, save recipes or use Brew Buddy. In My Account, you can update account information, download your linked account data and sign out on all devices. To delete your account, open Delete your My Brewing Buddy account, sign in if needed and complete the password and deletion confirmations. The Android app provides Privacy policy, Download my data and Delete account links in its account area. If you cannot access your account or need help with a privacy request, contact info@mybrewingbuddy.com.
Some browsers offer “Do Not Track” signals. My Brewing Buddy does not currently respond to browser Do Not Track signals. You can manage cookies through your browser settings, but disabling cookies may affect login, recipe builder, or account functionality.
Security
We use reasonable technical and administrative measures to protect the website and user information. No website or internet transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s Privacy
My Brewing Buddy is intended for users who are old enough to legally participate in homebrewing or related hobby activities in their location. The site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
International and State Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights, such as the right to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, correct certain information, or opt out of certain types of sharing. My Brewing Buddy does not sell personal information. To make a privacy request, contact info@mybrewingbuddy.com.
Android App
The app uses the same My Brewing Buddy account and server data as the website. Sign-in takes place in your browser; the app receives a revocable access token instead of storing your account password. The token is encrypted on the phone and normally expires after 30 days. The app’s private session storage is excluded from Android backups.
Unsaved recipe drafts and chat conversations are held in app memory and can disappear when the app process ends. Signing out or switching accounts clears this private in-app state. Server-stored recipes, question logs and submitted reports follow the retention and deletion practices described above. App-store disclosures will describe the applicable data practices.
Changes To This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the effective date on this page. Continued use of the website after changes are posted means the updated policy applies to your use of the site.
