How To Use Brew Buddy Assistant

Brew Buddy is the popup assistant on My Brewing Buddy. It can answer brewing questions, find help documents, define brewing and distillation terms, and help logged-in users create starter recipes for Beer, Wine, Mead, and Distillation recipe collections.

Look for the Brew Buddy button in the lower corner of the site. Click the button, type a question, and press Send.

What Brew Buddy Can Help With

Brewing questions: Ask about ingredients, process steps, recipe design, gravity, bitterness, color, fermentation, carbonation, and other brewing topics.
Site help: Ask where to find My Brewing Buddy guides, calculators, glossaries, and recipe-builder instructions.
Glossary definitions: Ask what a brewing or distillation term means. If the term is in the Beer Terminology Glossary or Distillation Terminology Glossary, Brew Buddy will return the definition and link to the glossary page.
Formula and conversion links: Ask about ABV, IBU, SRM, gravity, temperature conversion, carbonation, vessel volume, and other reference topics. Brew Buddy can link directly to relevant sections when available.
Saved recipe lookup: When logged in, ask Brew Buddy to find recipes in your saved collection.
Generated recipe starters: On the My Recipes and Edit Recipe pages, ask Brew Buddy for a recipe idea and save it to your recipe collection.

Using Brew Buddy To Find Help Pages

Brew Buddy searches My Brewing Buddy help and reference pages before answering. If a page on the site directly helps with your question, Brew Buddy can include a link in the response.

Ask What is ABV? to get the glossary definition and related formula links.
Ask How do I convert ounces to grams? to find measurement conversion help.

Using Brew Buddy With Your Saved Recipes

When you are logged in, Brew Buddy can help find recipes in your saved recipe collection. It will not edit or delete recipes without a separate confirmation action.

Creating A Recipe With Brew Buddy

On the My Recipes or Edit Recipe page, Brew Buddy can generate a starter recipe and offer a Save to My Recipes button. Saved generated recipes are placed in the correct recipe category:

Beer recipes are saved under Beer.
Wine recipes are saved under Wine.
Mead recipes are saved under Mead.
Liquor, spirit, gin, whiskey, rum, vodka, brandy, and similar recipes are saved under Distillation.

When possible, Brew Buddy matches generated fermentables, hops, yeast, and miscellaneous items to ingredients already in the My Brewing Buddy database so recipe calculations can run. Items that cannot be confidently matched are kept in the recipe notes for review.

Generated recipes are starting points. Review the recipe, confirm ingredient matches, adjust amounts, and verify calculations before brewing, fermenting, packaging, or distilling.

Where Brew Buddy Appears

Brew Buddy appears on most public pages.
On the My Recipes page, Brew Buddy is shown only to logged-in users.
Recipe-saving actions require a logged-in account.

Tips For Better Answers

Be specific about the recipe type, style, batch size, and experience level.
Use brewing terms when you know them, such as ABV, IBU, OG, FG, SRM, mash, sparge, or attenuation.
For recipe requests, include the drink style. For example: Give me a 5 gallon German pilsner recipe.
For distillation recipes, ask for wash, mash, fermentation, or ingredient guidance. Follow all laws and safety requirements in your location.

Privacy Notes

Brew Buddy may log question text, the page where the question was asked, matched help documents, answer mode, and broad login status to help improve site content. It does not log IP addresses, email addresses, user IDs, or saved recipe details.
